In this week’s episode of “LA Stories with Giselle Fernandez,” comedian, author and podcast powerhouse Adam Carolla sits down for a no-holds-barred conversation about his unlikely rise from poverty to fame — and why he refuses to play by Hollywood’s rules.

Raised by parents who, he says, neglected him, Carolla describes a childhood with no birthdays, no ball games, and no nurturing. It all shaped the fiercely independent voice he wields today.

“I grew up like a raccoon in a dumpster,” he says, unapologetically.

Carolla, known for his biting humor and unfiltered takes, doesn’t shy away from controversy. He’s equally comfortable aiming at “cancel culture,” the progressive left and California’s leadership. But he insists his comedy is rooted in truth, not provocation.

“If I’m accurate, then I don’t care,” he says, brushing off critics who accuse him of being offensive or divisive.

Despite his polarizing politics and outsider status in mainstream entertainment, Carolla has built a wildly successful career through bestselling books, well-received documentaries and one of the world’s most downloaded podcasts.

He credits longtime friend Jimmy Kimmel for helping launch his career and attributes his success not to privilege, but to perseverance and hard work.

“I don’t know anyone who worked hard and didn’t make something of themselves,” he says.
