On this week’s episode of LA Stories with Giselle Fernandez, Giselle sits down with the co-founder of the Los Angeles chapter of Black Lives Matter and professor of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, Melina Abdullah, who opens up about the roots of her activism and her tireless efforts to end systemic racism and white supremacy.
Melina talks about growing up in Oakland, California, and how the experience shaped her life today. She discusses the worldwide demonstrations against police brutality and the changes she’s calling for here in Los Angeles and throughout our country. She is pushing for the call to defund the police and talks about the structural revisions she wants to see in our government.
